"The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has sent me to bring glad tidings to the lowly, to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners, to announce a year of favor from the Lord and a day of vindication by our God, to comfort all who mourn." - Isaiah 61.1-2
One of the hallmarks of the educational program at Seton Catholic is the formation of young men and women as Christian witnesses in the world. In response to Jesus’ call to love others, all students are challenged to integrate this command into their own lives through participation in and reflection on service to the community.
Students work individually and together as a whole on community projects. Group projects may include a canned food drive for an area shelter, raising money for an area breast cancer patient, or painting for an elderly parishioner on the annual Branch Out Day. Individual hours of service can be accomplished in many ways. Some examples include serving at church, volunteering to help with an elementary event or walking dogs at the animal shelter. Students learn the art of giving at Seton Catholic High School.
Branch Out Day began in the spring of 2006, established by Father Eric Augustine as a tradition that continues to this day. Each spring, students in grades 7 through 12 dedicate a day to serving local organizations throughout our community. Parents, teachers, and staff members also take part in this meaningful event. Service is a core component of our mission to form disciples, and Branch Out Day provides students with valuable opportunities to engage in purposeful work, develop character, and make a positive impact. It is consistently one of the most rewarding and memorable days of the year. If your organization would like to partner with us or host student volunteers for Branch Out Day, please contact Jane Brack ([email protected]) or Jeneile Matthews ([email protected])
